Ai in the City
Artificial Intelligence (Ai) is transforming urban environments, impacting everything from mobility and sustainability to public safety, culture, and health. At “Ai in the City,” we explore how Ai can shape smarter, more efficient, and responsive cities. We bring together city planners, businesses, academic institutions, and public organizations to collaborate on solutions that make urban life better for everyone.
Welcome to Ai in the City..
Through initiatives like the “City Deal,” we foster partnerships between cities, governments, and private companies to apply Ai in areas like urban design, public services, and city management. Our goal is to ensure Ai is implemented ethically and inclusively, with a focus on enhancing community well-being.
We also host annual events like the Ai in the City conference, which brings experts and innovators together to discuss cutting-edge Ai applications in urban environments. Additionally, hackathons, webinars, and masterclasses are organized to inspire collaboration and learning within our growing network.
Join us in reimagining the future of urban living—where cities not only support but also respond to the needs of their citizens.

AI in the City: Innovation for the Future
The role of artificial intelligence (AI) in urban areas is becoming increasingly important. Cities around the world are using AI to become smarter, more sustainable and more livable. At “AI in the City,” we focus on exploring the opportunities and challenges of this technology for urban development, for what are the ethical implications of Ai? How do we secure our democratic rule of law in a self-thinking city? How dependent do we make ourselves on technology? And won’t cities become monolithic if they all use the same Ai? There are plenty of questions to learn from, plenty of examples to see and plenty of solutions to apply and experience.
The Congress ‘AI in the City’
Recently, the ‘AI in the City’ congress took place, bringing together experts and policymakers to discuss how AI can be used to transform cities. The congress provided a platform for inspiring presentations and interactive workshops, focusing on both the opportunities and risks of AI applications in urban environments. The City Deal ‘AI in the City’
In addition to the conference, a City Deal ‘AI in the City’ is under exploration. This City Deal would bring together governments, businesses and knowledge institutions to work together to integrate AI in cities. The goal is to develop innovative AI solutions that not only bring technical advances, but also contribute to social cohesion and sustainability. Want to know more about the City Deal in exploration? Ai in the City – Congress 2025
On September 12, 2024, we brought Ai in the City to Breda. In 2025 we will continue. And you can participate. As a participant, speaker or partner. Because we make Ai in the City together.
The first hit is a jackpot and we noticed this in 2024. The more than 225 attendees gave us an average score of 8.8, a score we are very proud of and which motivates us to create an even more beautiful event in 2025.
Focus: Ai in the City We Make Together
The city belongs to us and so the role of Ai in the City must be as well. We cannot afford to leave Ai to bigtech from faraway foreign countries. Therefore, in 2025, we will investigate how we can use Ai in such a way that it improves life in our cities, but in a way that suits our Western European democracy. We will show the examples of that.
Building on what was good
We are proud of the satisfied participants of the first edition. The more than 225 attendees gave us an average rating of 8.8.
The content of the congress was perceived by most participants as instructive, inspiring, and relevant. The varied topics and offering new insights contributed to the positive evaluation of the congress.
>> The themes fitted well with participants’ expectations and gave them new knowledge and insights. Especially the presentations on AI in cities, health, and the living environment appealed to participants.
>> The content was practically applicable, and participants indicated that they took away valuable information for their own work or projects.
One participant even called the conference “tremendously inspiring” and another appreciated the original perspective on a very relevant topic, which had not been highlighted before in such an event.
Picking up on what can be done better
But we also see that we can continue to grow …
… by giving even more national and international examples the stage;
… by adding even more wow to the program;
… by sharing the knowledge being developed in the City Deal ‘Ai in the City’ with the conference participants;
… by collaborating with Flemish partners;
… by going deeper into technology;
… by expanding and converting the expo into a full-fledged exhibition floor for exhibitors;
… by turning it into a three-day event;
… by attracting more than 500 participants.
We can’t do it alone
We need your help. As a participant, speaker or partner.
